Have you ever hear about The Fresh Air Fund?

This is an independent, not-for-profit company, who provided free summer vacations for New York City children from low-income communities. Nearly 10,000 New York City children enjoy free Fresh Air Fund programs every year. In the last 2009 year, about 5,000 children visited volunteer host families in suburbs and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada.

The Fresh Air Fund is looking for loving host families in the following areas to host children THIS summer Red Hook, Columbia County, Saugerties, Delmar, Guilderland & Altamont, Latham and Rensselaer, NY. If you or someone you know is able to host, please sign up now.

What is baby whimpering and how do we spoil a child?
New Zealand child psychologist Nigel Latta says that it is very easy to spoil a child. You merely “indulge their every whim”.

According to Latta, parents give in to their child’s every desire for three reasons, because

• they had “crap childhoods”
• they feel bad if their children feel bad
• giving in is just easiest

Psychologist, Jackie Riach who runs the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme in New Zealand says that the term spoil is less used these days – people tend to use the term indulged or pampered. (more…)

In the past father’s role in babybirth and pregnancy process was finally brought to where it belonged: next to the mother. With the advent of the Bradley birthing methods, fathers were finally given something important to do. They became “coaches” for the birthing event, and their need to be needed was fulfilled.

Yet, the nine long months ahead of the “world series” game is a difficult and vague time for the men in our lives. Fathers really have no concept of how we feel physically and emotionally during this time, so they need our help and direction to create a safe and friendly environment for the mother-to-be and the child. Men need to feel part of the wonderful process to establish a relationship with the unborn child early on. (more…)

Have you ever heard that infants can dive? Really, they have innate reflex to hold their breath. This reflex remains about 3 months and then it disappears. After 3 months it is much harder to teach your baby dive. So the best time to learn swimming and diving is the first months of your baby’s life. (more…)
